About the Art
Resin painting is process that involves a complex layering of colours and textures that creates multiple layers and dimensions on the canvas. Resin is a two part compound that hardens to a clear glossy finish. You can add paint to the resin or a variety of different natural pigments.
Much of the work I produced seeks to explore the untapped potential these unique materials and encouraging them to behave in unfamiliar ways. This often requires developing new techniques and tools that are capable of subverting conventional painting or resin pouring techniques, introducing a dose of entropy into what are typically very controlled processes. Chance is an essential element in this creative process, and one that I bear witness to through the materials ability to simultaneously blend and resist each other.
Jasmine currently works exclusively with local, Canadian sourced, eco-friendly, and sustainable composites. The resin itself provides a restricted time line for the art, and somewhere in between fluidity and solidification a unique process unfolds.
There are alchemistic moments of transition and turbulence. It is in these moments where she can witness and reflect on the material’s ability to blend and resist simultaneously, much like earth’s systems.
About the Artist
Being an Artist and Art Therapist my goal is to create art that provokes an emotional response to drive change. Behavioural psychology tells us that we take action based on our emotions above all else. By fusing psychology, art, and environmental studies I offer an outlook laced with possibility and a reminder of the awe inspiring setting humanity depends on. I create my large scale work from a bird’s eye view, as if gazing down from the azure, to convey a sense of grandeur and wonderment while restoring a too often broken connection for the viewer with the natural world.
